Trial of Eculizumab for HUS approved

26th December 2015

The trial for the drug Eculizumab for HUS sufferers has been approved. The study is known as the ECUSTEC. The drug is currently being used by aHUS sufferers. The Charity welcomes the trial which will start in 2016 as it is hoped that it will help improve the outcome for sufferers of HUS. To date there has been no specific treatment.

The Charity is one of the co-applicants for the drug based on the fact that there has been no such treatments previously. Whilst only time will tell whether or not the drug will work, we can only hope that it will be beneficial long term for such sufferers. The trial will take several years to complete.
