18th September 2012

Birmingham City Council is presently working with the Health Protection Agency to investigate an outbreak of E.coli O157 that has affected 7 visitors to Sutton Park in recent weeks. At least five of these people were children under the age of 8 and 1 has been hospitalised.

Sutton Park lies six miles north of Birmingham city centre, covers over 2,400 acres and attracts over two million visitors every year.

The council has advised visitors to:

  • Keep children and pets away from grazing animals in the park
  • Clean hands thoroughly and regularly especially before eating and drinking
  • Wash boots, bicycle and buggy wheels after visiting the park
