E.coli O157 & Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome

Another petting farm linked to E.coli outbreak

25th September 2012

An investigation of an E.coli outbreak is currently taking place in Wales after 2 children who had visited Cantref Adventure Farm were confirmed with the infection.  Two other people, who are family members of one of the infected children, have also tested positive for E. coli O157.

The Health Protection Agency and Powys County Council’s environmental health department are working with Public Health Wales to investigate the outbreak, along with the Environmental Health departments in Ceredigion and Kent where the children are resident. The farm has stopped direct contact between animals and members of the public as a precautionary measure and is also undertaking a deep clean of the premises.

Anyone who has visited the farm since the beginning of August and has symptoms of E. coli O157 should contact their GP NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47.
