Cardiff kebab shop reopens as another case is identified

Public Health Wales has been notified of one further case of E.coli O157 in an individual who had been under investigation, bringing the total number of cases identified so far to nine. No cases are in hospital. A further nine people are under investigation.

The takeaway at the centre of the investigation into the outbreak Adonis Kebab House, in City Road, Cardiff has been allowed to reopen and the emergency hygiene prohibition notice lifted.

Staff have undergone food hygiene training and the owner has carried out extensive improvements which have now been completed. All parts of the premises and equipment have been cleaned, new equipment (such as sink, wash hand basin and dishwasher) has been installed, and separate fridges for salad and raw meat have been provided. New dividers have also been installed in the display chiller cabinets to ensure greater separation between salads and raw meat to prevent any cross contamination.

The investigation into the source of the outbreak is continuing. More than 60 people who ate at the Adonis Kebab House between 18th July and 11th August (when it was closed by Cardiff Council) have completed an online questionnaire as part of the investigation. The questionnaire is still available at www.publichealthwales.org
