E.coli O157 & Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome


Second outbreak in the Borders

12th October 2006

Three young children from the Melrose area of the Scottish Borders have become ill after contracting E.coli O157.  It is the second cluster of cases in the area within two months.  Although the children attend the same Melrose nursery, the investigating team have ruled out the facility as the source and think they became infected from livestock near their home.
