E.coli O157 & Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome

Second Scottish Nursery Hit by E.coli

16th May 2006

Two children are being treated at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital for E.coli O157 after a second Scottish nursery was hit by the bacterium.

The children both attend Dreams Daycare Nursery in Insch.

This comes within days of the outbreak in Fife, which has left five toddlers seriously ill.  At the moment it is unclear if the outbreaks are connected, but NHS Grampian are investigating along with environmental health officers from Aberdeenshire Council.
