According to the Mail Online article, link below, of 21st October 2023, there appears to be hope in relation to the treatment of STEC caused HUS.

We are currently trying to find out more information on this latest news about the proposed treatment and possible trial of Eculizumab, also known as Soliris.

There was a previous trial using this drug, unfortunately the trial was cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

We have to treat this news cautiously until we know more, but do hope a suitable treatment such as this, can be found for STEC HUS cases as there is no specific treatment at the present time for this devastating illness.

To date, efforts to prevent these types of bacterium entering the food chain or the environment, have not, worked significantly well enough to reduce the number of human cases.

Obviously, in an ideal world, prevention would be better than cure.
