Staffordshire primary school shut over E. coli outbreak.

Friarswood Primary School in Newcastle-under-Lyme has been closed due to an outbreak of E. coli O157.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported that 3 cases have been confirmed and all pupils at are currently being being tested.

Staffordshire County Council believes the bacteria was brought into the school from an outside source. The school is expected to be closed until at least Monday but will reopen only when it safe to do so. Classrooms, toilets, desks and chairs are presently undergoing a deep cleanse prevent the bacteria spreading.

Parents called to an emergency meeting yesterday were also told to wash their children's PE kits and disinfect or throw away pencil cases and reading folders.
