Butchers shop shut in outbreak of E.coli

According to news reports, a butchers shop in Billingham, Teesside has agreed to close after 15 cases of E.coli infection. This is as a precaution. The reported cases appear to be from cooked meat. If so, there is a strong possibility that it has come from cross-contamination. The charity is well aware of the impact that these devastating outbreaks have on the sufferers and their families.

We hope it is not the case that lessons have not been learnt from previous outbreaks from these type of premises. In 1996, the biggest outbreak in the UK occurred in central Scotland (Wishaw) from such a premises. Therefore the charity would hope that by now there would be no such occurrences.
